2023 Le Ragnaie “Troncone”, Toscana Rosso, Tuscany, Italy

ABOUT THE WINE

Troncone is made from 100% Sangiovese grown at 600+ meters above sea level near Montalcino, just outside the Brunello DOCG boundaries. These organically farmed vineyards lie on rocky, calcareous soils, yielding wines of clarity and lift. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts in concrete vats, followed by aging in large neutral oak botti, allowing purity of fruit and terroir to shine.

The 2023 vintage is marked by brightness and aromatic lift—showing notes of red cherry, cranberry, dried thyme, and subtle spice. The palate is light on its feet yet persistent, with a stony backbone and refreshing acidity. It’s unfiltered, unfussy, and deeply expressive of place.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Le Ragnaie, led by Riccardo Campinoti, is a celebrated estate based in Montalcino known for its high-elevation vineyards and nuanced expressions of Sangiovese. The farming is organic, and the cellar approach is traditional and restrained, emphasizing native fermentations, large oak aging, and minimal intervention. While best known for its elegant Brunellos, Le Ragnaie uses Troncone to showcase the estate’s signature freshness and precision in a more accessible and everyday format.
